School Health Policy

Goal

To institutionalize wellness in school through and enabling environment to ensure that children achieve their optimal growth and development.

Objectives

  • Wellness activities are supported and implemented in all the sections through inclusion in the curriculum.
  • Integrated approach to school health program.
  • Coordinated wellness activities in all the three sections targeting the physical, mental and emotional health of children.

Policy Statement

  • The world health organization’s health promoting school guideline shall be recognized as the guiding document for school health policy.
  • Create an enabling atmosphere in the promotion of child friendly school environment, for teaching and learning and health development.
  • School principal and all coordinators shall ensure that school health program is incorporated into their school strategic plan and annual plan.
  • The school shall actively engage their students and teachers in the school health activities.
  • Healthy eating habits shall be promoted amongst the students by encouraging students to bring home made lunch and discouraging junk food.
  • School dispensary will be an integral element of the school structure with a dispenser a first line of contact utilizing first aid facilities in case of minor injuries.
  • Proper first aid facilities will be provided in the school.
  • In case of major injury on school premises, school will inform parents and will take child to the hospital.
  • Occasional lectures about personal hygiene, cleanliness of the immediate environment, adolescent sexual education and mental health will be delivered in the light of religion and cultural aspirations.
  • To highlight the adverse effects of drugs’ use, it will be included in the curriculum and thus will be taught in the class room through different activities by subject teachers.
  • Students’ councilors will also work in close association with the health officers to develop environment for students’ positive mental and emotion health.
